Filofax Video Blogging!

A note: All the highlighted words in my blog are clickable links.

OMG!   I watch loads and loads of video Blogs about Filofaxes and would love to do one myself.  Today the house was quiet, no one was around so I thought I would give it a try!  Lordy be!  It's not as easy as it looks, how you guys make it look good is beyond me!!!

Holding the camera straight while handling the Filofax and talking at the same time.....that is going to take some practice!

Also, thinking of something to talk about without umming, ahhhing and saying er..... all the time is again, not easy.

So after a minute or so I stopped.  I was also very worried about my accent, I live about 25 miles from Newcastle Upon Tyne, so people think I have a "Geordie" accent.....except the Geordies who can't actually work out where I'm from. lol

So I've uploaded it just to....I dunno....ease my way into Video blogging.  But I am going to have to have a script or some more confidence or whatever before I dare attempt another. lol

Any advice on how to do this would be so much appreciated!

  1. Well done. I didn't have any trouble understanding your accent and I din't think it's something you need to worry about.

I've only made two videos, but for what it's worth, I've found that doing a complete dry run (without the camera on) before recording means I am more fluent. If you'll be holding a camera, then keep your camera hand behind your back when you do the dry run.

The first time I made a video I used the iPhone, held in my hand. The second time I used a camcorder on a tripod, which gave me considerably more freedom. Others like Imy and Neil, use a webcam and have themselves in shot. I'm thinking I might try that next time.

  2. Awahh thanks Ray! x

I used my Digi camera to make the vid, but next time (if there is a next time) I am going to set it up on a tripod so I have both hands free. Dunno if I am brave enough to get myself in the whole shot though, even though my webcam would most likely be the best option....who knows, maybe one day. lol

  3. Great first attempt, I completely understood you too!!

I used a webcam for my first video, I didn't plan it, just went for it and luckily it turned out ok apart from the Filofax looking back to front, i'm working on this for next time, I used photo booth on my mac.

    1. HIya Alison, I watched your video and you were great hun. I did think at first you were showing the Filofax from the back first, then realised it's the web cam, mine does the same thing. You did a great job though hun, especially on your first try. Wish I had the confidence to so something like that.

    2. I'm sure the confidence will come in time, a video is something I never dreamed I would do, not with my broad Wigan accent lol, but I suppose the more it's done the easier it gets :)

  4. Hi Gail. I have only posted one video myself, and I don't think I did it right, it was a long process I didn't understand, and I still can't figure out how to get a thumbnail to put up because it doesn't give me any choices...BUT....@Ray was a wonderful help. He pointed me in the right direction for a place to edit, and helped boost my confidence to keep trying to get it posted. I say, don't give up, and post what you've got. You spoke clearly and I could understand you just fine. Keep at it!

    1. Hiya Steph, I didn't even realise my computer came with it's own Movie Maker, I hadn't used it before yesterday and I only found it because I googled how to upload Vids to YouTube faster. I am pleased you could understand me though. lol

  6. Hi, Gail. I've a Philofaxy reader and I wanted to say that I really enjoy your blog -- and as an American, I can understand you perfectly and find your accent charming. I'm looking forward to more videos, and of course more blog posts. Yours is a much-appreciated Saturday round-up read.

  8. I agree wholeheartedly with M Ng about your accent being charming! I was disappointed when your video stopped. I understood you perfectly and I think the filming was just fine. More, more!
